What is this?

A completely unscientific way of working out the speed of your browser. We measure how many times your browser can do a particular calculation in a second. Higher numbers mean a faster browser.

Why should I care?

If you're a web developer, then you can use the rating to work out if the user can handle visual effects. This is a good thing, and if you've ever seen an iPhone try to handle a poorly written fade effect, you'll know what I mean.

Generally if the rating is under 100, then hardcore javascript is probably not a good idea.

How is the rating calculated?

By counting the number of times your browser can run a sha1 hash in 150ms, and extrapolating that out to a second. The rating can change pretty dramatically depending on your system load, browser brand and a bunch of other things, so its best not to take it too seriously.
